Why I Became a REALTOR

When people ask me why I got into real estate, they often expect a simple answer about liking houses. But for me, the journey actually started with a very different dream in St. Albans Township.

Growing up in Pataskala, Ohio, my dad was my hero. He served as a firefighter for over 20 years, working at St. Albans Township Fire Department. Watching him, I was certain I wanted to follow in his footsteps—I wanted to save lives. But as many first responders know, the job comes with risks. After my dad suffered a serious accident falling through a three-story building, he eventually transitioned out of the fire service and into a new role: the “punch out” guy for Rockford Homes.

He encouraged me to look for a safer path than firefighting, so I set my sights on the medical field. I earned my STNA license and spent years working in nursing homes. While I loved caring for people, I eventually realized that the heavy emotional toll of the medical field wasn’t the right long-term fit for my heart. I wanted a career that focused on new beginnings and joyous milestones.

The Spark for Real Estate The real turning point came from visiting my dad at his new job. When I would stop by the Rockford Homes job sites to see him, he would take me on tours of the houses in progress. He’d show me the framing, the new features, and the decor choices.

I fell in love with it. I loved the smell of new construction and the excitement of seeing a house come together. I realized I didn’t just want to visit these homes; I wanted to help people get into them.

Balancing Business and Family I finally decided to take the leap and get my real estate license while I was pregnant with my third daughter. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Now, as a mom of four girls, real estate gives me the incredible blessing of flexibility. I can build a thriving business while still being present for my kids. I treat my clients with the same care I used to give my patients, but now I get to guide them through one of the happiest times of their lives.

Whether it’s “house hunting” for existing properties or walking through a brand-new build like I used to do with my dad, I love every part of seeing what a home has to offer.
